MA PAU gives boats to Tsunami Victims

MA PAU Members Club one of the oldest and most reputable Members Club reached out and touched the lives of 10 Sri Lankan fishermen who had lost their boats and families in the recent devastating Tsunami.

MA PAU Members Club took a personal approach to helping those fishermen who were hurt most by the terrible disaster, by giving to them fishing boats so that they can again resume fishing which is the primary source of their income, so that they can rebuild their homes and provide for their families.

The presentation of these boats was done at Golden City Resort, Kalahari, Sri Lanka. This resort was also partly damaged by the Tsunami. Sherry Persad PR of Ma Pau flew all the way to Sri Lanka to make this possible. The government of Sri Lanka was represented by The Honorable Prime Minister’s brother, The honorable Minister’s Political Secretary Mr. Basil Rajapaksa, Governor of the Western Province, Mr. Alevi Maulana, MP, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications & Udarata Development Mr. Rohittha Abeygunawardana and representing the University of Jayewardenepura, Professor Gunapala Nanyakkara.

The presentation took the form of a Traditional Sri Lankan ceremony with dances leading the entourage and the lighting of the lamp by all officials

All 10 fishermen chosen by the Government of Sri Lanka as the most oppressed, were present and received their certificates of ownership of their new boats.

The Golden Moment was when one of the fisherman thanked Ma Pau with tears streaming down his face for giving to him a chance to rebuild his home although he had lost some of his family.

Ma Pau Members club was thanked and applauded for our humanitarian effort by Sri Lanka’s Government.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was done on the beach. As the boats were given out, faces of gratitude and happiness filled the area, eagerness and sheer excitement when the fishermen took their new boats with new engines to the water.

A landmark for Ma Pau Members Club, once again we made a difference. A small business with a big heart.
