UNDEFEATED CHAMPION SALANDY DIES IN CAR CRASH

On Sunday 4th January, 2009, a mere eleven days after Jizelle Salandy’s successful title defence against Dominican Republic’s Yahada Hernandez, this bright and promising Trinidadian boxer passed away. At the tender age of 21, Salandy already boasted a world record breaking eight title belts; going on a run of seventeen wins and no losses. As such, Salandy quickly established herself as a phenomenon in the world of boxing. Her untimely death will definitely affect those who love her and the nation that supported her. The Mapau Members Club extends their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Salandy in this time of grief.

This capable young talent was recognized in her home town of Siparia and was given financial support by the Members Club to pursue her dreams. Mapau has been a strong supporter of young star in her times of need and has proven to be her major financial backing in her professional career. Salandy’s kind ways and love for her fan base demonstrated her charismatic attributes. Buxo Potts, her manager and mentor, was largely responsible for her stead in the ring as a champion. Long time adviser and previous promoter, Ms. Kim Quashie was also responsible for her upbringing as a role model and proper young lady. It is these pioneering qualities and fast action thinking in the ring that made her an entertaining and unrivalled fighter.

This Trinidadian mentor and beautiful young lady will always be remembered as a classy character and a well groomed champion. Mapau Members Club mourns the loss of a truly wonderful person and a one of a kind talent.
